My process for designing your Web Page

It's important to begin by mapping out a complete plan of what you would like on your web page website pages you will require, a content directive for each page, and plan the navigation and functionality for each website page. Web Potts Design will guide you through this process to ensure the information displayed on your website is of the highest standard.

1 - How to choose a name for your business    (www.yourname.com)

2 - Written Information

3 - Your logo and design style

4 - Photographs

5 - Implementation of your website

6 – Extras / Face Book / Business Cards / Advertising

             Your business name

It's important to think of a name that gives potential customers a good idea of what it is that you do. Whether you use your own name, e.g. "Steven Potts Web Design", or choose something catchy and creative like "WebPotts".

Remember that it's important your customers can find you through your chosen advertising channels. For John's plumbing business – if he chose to omit the word "plumbing" and name it "John Smith Enterprises" for example, he could potentially miss out on a lot of business by people only searching the world "plumbing" in their local area.

What sort of domain name best suits your business?

Every domain name has a suffix that indicates which the domain area / group it belongs to.

gov - Government agencies

edu - Educational institutions

org - Organizations (nonprofit)

net - Network organizations

com - commercial business

com.au commercial business / Australia based

ca – Canada  etc

And many more for the country you live in

Let me know what you would like to call your business .com or .com.au

The domain name you want to register?

You'll need to make sure that the domain name you register is closely related to the business name you have registered, or relevant to the type of business you have.

How do I choose the best website address for my business?

Always keep your potential customers in mind, when making decisions about the methods they will contact you. Try to keep it simple for them to find and remember what your website address is.

For example, it would be smart for Beet Café to choose either "beetcafe.com" or "beet-cafe.com" – it's easy for their customers to remember and it also contributes to their search engine optimisation (SEO).

Well written information

It is up to you what you would like to write, please feel free to look at web pages from other people in the same trade to see if something they have written captures your attention and let me know the pages you like.

If your customers are taking the time to read the information you provide to them, you should take the time to get it right for them – they will appreciate your accurate and concise attention-to-detail.

Clear, concise and easy-to-find information is instrumental in your website being an effective communication tool for your potential customers. Consumers can spend less than 30-seconds in summarizing whether your business is of interest to them, so you want to ensure that you make a good impression quickly.

Your logo and design style

Presentation to your customers

The image you present to your potential customers is paramount in establishing yourself as a professional and knowledgeable entity.

Your logo is a great way starting point, in defining a personality for your business. You should consider very carefully the idea behind your logo – what would you like to say about your business? Is your business a fun or entertaining place? Do you provide relaxation services and beauty treatments? Or perhaps you are a hard working true blue Aussie trade service.

Your logo is the starting point for many other tools that you may require for your business. Do you need business cards, letterheads, brochures/flyers, signage, uniforms, promotional banners and advertising?

Just jot down a ideas with a photo you would like on your logo and I will get back to you for advice when I have completed your logo.

Photographs

Take your time when taking your photos as professional photos can communicate a message faster than spiels of text. But poor quality photographs with unconsidered lighting can quickly give your business a bad impression.

If you are located in the same area as me I can also come out and take professional photo and edit them for you at no extra cost

Sending large photos is no problem, just set up a free account with Google Doc's

Once your website is built, you will now enter a testing phase, to ensure that everything works the way it was intended. This is the time to make any last minute alterations – which is natural, as not everyone can visualise the final product until it’s done.

Now that you have a fantastic website, we need to advertise it properly so that your business can be found and increased sales are reflected.

One advertising channel that your potential customers can easily find you, is via a 'search engine' such as "Google", "Yahoo" or "Bing" ... this is called Search engine optimisation (SEO).
